Overall Rating
Conclave is a taut, gripping Vatican thriller about the election of a new pope. Edward Berger directs a stellar cast in one of the most surprising films of 2024.

Conclave arrives at the perfect cultural moment and proves that the most compelling political thrillers do not require explosions or car chases — just rooms full of powerful men with secrets. Edward Berger, fresh off All Quiet on the Western Front, delivers another immaculate piece of filmmaking.

The Cast

Ralph Fiennes is superb as the cardinal tasked with overseeing the conclave. He carries the moral weight of the film on his shoulders and never lets it slip. Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini surround him with equally fine work.

The Verdict

Conclave is one of 2024 best films. Intelligent, suspenseful, beautifully made. Rating: 9/10. Streaming on Peacock.
